Nature as the backdrop to creative play.

When Industrie Africa and Singita joined forces last year to collaborate with 30 fashion and jewellery designers from across the continent, we chose Kilima as the base for our first ever fashion shoot in the wild.

Beyond the strong architecture and established, verdant gardens, this collaboration was as much a psychological experiment (think Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs) as a creative pursuit. We asked ourselves what self-actualization might occur for the creative team bringing the collaboration to life while our dedicated Kilima team would be meeting all of their physiological, safety, belonging, and esteem needs.

A home away from home is a wonderful place to find oneself when doing creative work.
